The Jesus Lizard – Live in Cologne / 28.05.2025

On May 28, 2025, The Jesus Lizard played a long-awaited show in Cologne – their first in Germany after a very long break. I had been looking forward to this night for months. Although I had hoped to photograph the show with my camera, I wasn’t allowed to bring it in. So I switched to my iPhone – and did what I could to capture a few impressions in the moment. Despite the limitations, the performance itself was phenomenal: loud, tight, relentless – exactly what you expect from The Jesus Lizard, and then some.
But the true highlight came after the show: I had the unexpected chance to talk with Duane Denison, the band’s guitarist – a true icon. Even more surprising: he approached me and asked if he could buy a cigarette.We shared a short but warm conversation. Duane was generous, attentive, and down-to-earth – genuinely impressive as a musician and person.
Fun fact: At one point he asked me,
„Has anyone ever told you you look like Johnny Thunders?“
Then he laughed and added,
„People think I’m Jim Jarmusch or David Byrne these days…“
A surreal and memorable ending to a night I won’t forget.
